View memo: December 24, 2015 Admin Leave
President Loh has informed the campus that the University will be closed on December 24, 2015 to express his gratitude for the hard work and dedication of our employees. Pursuant to authority granted under Board of Regents policy, Dr. Loh has designated 12/24/2015 as an Administrative Leave day for all regular/contingent II staff and faculty.
Some “Essential” staff may be expected to report to work as usual. If eligible, essential employees that work will receive compensatory time or additional pay for the portion of their regularly scheduled shift that is covered by the campus closure on December 24, 2015, in addition to their hours worked. This shall be in accordance with the employee’s overtime payment status and relevant personnel policy on work hours and overtime.
Please note that 8 hours of Administrative Leave will be populated on the PHR timesheets and Faculty Leave Records for all full-time regular and contingent II staff and faculty for December 24, 2015. For part-time employees, supervisors should record the appropriate hours based on the employee’s schedule.
There may be employees who have previously requested to be on Annual Leave or other paid leave on December 24, 2015. Those employees will not be required to charge the pre-approved leave on that day. If paid leave has already been recorded on the time/leave record it should be removed and replaced with administrative leave. However, employees who are in an unpaid leave status on the prior scheduled workday are ineligible for this Administrative Leave, pursuant to applicable USM policies.
Also, employees who had scheduled annual leave on 12/24/2015 and who are in a “use or lose” situation will have until 1/23/2016 (end of pay period 15) to use the day of scheduled annual leave displaced by the closure of the campus on 12/24/2015. Any bargaining unit staff member who has a professional development day scheduled on 12/24/2015 should contact Staff Relations at 301.405.0001 to reschedule the day.
