UHR Information Services is responsible for administering Advance Sick Leave (ASL). ASL is a benefit offered to eligible employees who sustain a temporary, recoverable illness, injury or serious disability or are eligible for Parental Leave (VII-7.49(A) University of Maryland Policy on Staff Parental Leave Policy and Other Family Support). For ASL eligibility employees shall:
- Have exhausted all other types of accrued leave; and
- Have a satisfactory record of sick leave usage and work performance.

To begin the ASL process please, complete the appropriate form, to include the Department Head’s signature.

Once the request has been approved, UHR Staff Relations will contact the employee and their supervisor with instructions on time entry while on ASL, and the notification process when the employee returns to work. For questions regarding ASL, please contact Christine Hottel at 301.405.2182.
