Administrative Leave Day on December 24, 2013

President Loh has informed the campus that the University will be closed on December 24, 2013.  Pursuant to authority granted under USM Board of Regents policy, Dr. Loh has designated 12/24/2013 as an Administrative Leave day for all regular-status faculty and regular-status and contingent-2 staff.

Some “Essential” staff may be expected to report to work as usual on December 24th.  If eligible, Essential employees that work will receive compensatory time or additional pay for the portion of their regularly scheduled shift that is covered by the campus closure that day, in addition to their hours worked.  This shall be in accordance with the employee’s overtime payment status and relevant human resources policy on work hours and overtime.

There may be employees who have previously requested to be on Annual Leave or other paid leave on December 24, 2013.  Those employees will not be required to charge the pre-approved leave on that day and Administrative Leave should be used instead. However, employees who are in an unpaid leave status on the prior scheduled workday are ineligible for this Administrative Leave, pursuant to applicable USM policies.

Employees who had scheduled annual leave on 12/24/2013 and who are in a “use or lose” situation will have until 1/25/2014 (end of pay period 15) to use the day of  scheduled annual leave displaced by the closure of the campus on 12/24/2013. Any bargaining unit staff member who has a professional development day scheduled on 12/24/2013 should contact Staff Relations at 301.405.0001 to reschedule the day. Please note that eight (8) hours of Administrative Leave for 12/24/2013 will be populated on the PHR timesheets and Faculty Leave Records for all full-time regular faculty and staff, and C-2 staff.  For part-time employees, supervisors should record the appropriate hours based on the employee’s schedule.
