Identity Theft Seminars

In the coming weeks, the university will be hosting three informational seminars on Identity Theft featuring Jeff Karberg from the Maryland Office of the Attorney General and Dr. Ann Wylie, Chair of the UMD Task Force on Cybersecurity and Interim Chief Information Officer.  Faculty, staff, students, and other members of the UMD community are invited to attend one of these sessions which will feature a structured presentation by Mr. Karberg, followed by a brief question and answer period.

The three session options are scheduled as follows:

  • April 17, 2014, 4-5PM, Grand Ballroom, Stamp Union
  • April 21, 2014, 1:30-2:30PM, Grand Ballroom, Stamp Union
  • April 24, 2014, 9-10AM, Colony Ballroom, Stamp Union

Identity Theft Seminar Handouts and Booklet Information

Staff who wish to attend will receive 75 minutes of release time to attend one session, subject to operational considerations.  Supervisors are asked to exercise flexibility and discretion to the extent possible so that staff may attend a session during work hours, if they so choose. Parking will be available at the Stamp Union garage.

The April 21st session will be live-streamed; employees who can view it from their desks are encouraged to do so as possible so that employees without computer access and members of the student and parent communities will have adequate seating. Unit leaders may also wish to coordinate a viewing session in a centralized conference room equipped to run the live stream.

The live stream will run on the UMD YouTube page (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YUH4e7vlo8s). Additionally, the live-stream will be available immediately after the session on the 21st at the same site, on-demand, to view at any time.

American Sign Language interpreters will be available at each session and Spanish language translation services will be available at the sessions on April 21st and April 24th.  Requests for reasonable accommodation should be emailed to Cyn Trombly Allen at ctrombly@umd.edu at least one week in advance of the desired session. For more information, please contact UHR’s Office of Workplace Initiatives in Learning & Development (WiLD) at (301) 405-5651 or at uhr.umd.edu.
