Q: What is the University policy on bereavement leave?

A: In the event of the death of an immediate family member in the area, an employee is eligible for a total of three (3) days of bereavement leave. If overnight travel is required, an employee is eligible for up to five (5) days of bereavement leave. In the event of the death of an employee’s or his/her spouse’s aunt, uncle, niece or nephew, the employee is eligible for one (1) day of paid bereavement leave. Bereavement leave is coded in PHR as “23-Bereavement Leave”. Information regarding bereavement leave, including the definition of an immediate family member, can be found within University policy VII 7.45, Policy on Sick Leave for Exempt & Nonexempt Employees.
