The beginning of each semester is an exciting time on our campus. There is an energy in the air that is unlike any other time of the year which is made possible through your continued efforts and commitment to making UMD an amazing place to be for our staff, faculty, and students and visitors, too. The excitement comes from the arrival of our student body and the many new initiatives and annual events that are kicked off each year.
Additionally, our Benefit Open Enrollment period for the 2017 plan year begins on October 13th and remains open through November 15th. This your opportunity to make changes in your benefits coverage and to enroll in a flexible spending account for dependent and/or health care expenses. More information will be delivered to you in the coming days and we will also make it available online at uhr.umd.edu when we receive it from the State of Maryland.
Our new learning and development program, Employee Development Initiatives (EDI): Foundations of Excellence, was piloted this past summer and is launching this fall. EDI is an initiative that has been designed specifically to help you to grow professionally and succeed here at the University. The first session, Creating an Engaged and Inclusive Work Environment, is being held on October 13th. Be sure to register at training.umd.edu to attend. I would like to thank our L&TD team for their efforts in developing this program and the entire UHR staff for participating in the pilot to aid us in finalizing it for the rollout.
Finally, please join me in welcoming Namrata Ram-Andriessens as the new Assistant Director of Learning and Talent Development. Namrata brings many years of international learning and development experience with her to UMD. I am very excited that she has joined UHR and I look forward to her leading the team in the expansion of the development opportunities made available to you.
