Jacinta Felice, Associate Director in Residential Facilities, suggested these tips for navigating icy parking lots and sidewalks.  While the dedicated staff of Facilites Management do a phenominal job at keeping our walkways free of ice, there may be a time when you come across a patch of ice.  Listen to the experts and walk like a penguin to help you avoid that painful slip on to the pavement.

  • Walk flat footed and take short shuffling steps
  • Wear footwear that provides traction
  • Step down, not out from curbs
  • Go hands free and use your arms for balance

Winter Storm Warning (Take Action):  Confidence is High – A winter storm will produce heavy snow, sleet or freezing rain and cause significant impacts.

Winter Storm Watch (Be Prepared):  Confidence is Medium – A winter storm could produce heavy snow, sleet, or freezing rain and cause significant impacts.

Winter Weather Advisory (Exercise Caution):  Wintry weather expected.  Light amounts of wintry precipitation or patchy blowing snow will cause slick conditions.
