Dear University of Maryland community,
The Interdivisional Work Group on Non-Exempt Staff (IWG) continues to lead efforts to cultivate a more respectful, supportive and inclusive work environment at the university. As co-chairs of IWG, we are pleased to provide this update on our recommendations and status of many ongoing initiatives.
The charge of the IWG was to identify better ways for non-exempt staff to be included in shared governance, recognized for their contributions, receive timely information and better understand how to resolve workplace disputes. This group has worked tirelessly over the last several months to address these objectives and identify specific ways to advance each. The final report includes 34 recommendations that focus on five key areas: communication, recognition, shared governance, personnel and training. Many of the recommendations are underway and several key initiatives have already been completed.
More details, including an entire list of the IWG’s recommendations and the status of each can be found online: IWG Final Recommendations 12-14-2012
We are committed to the success of every University of Maryland employee. This body of work affirms our community’s core values and unwavering dedication to respect and improving conditions for non-exempt staff.
