The University Human Resources (UHR) Classification and Compensation team partners with departments across the University of Maryland to ensure staff positions are appropriately classified; compensation decisions are equitable and consistent; and pay practices align with institutional goals, University System of Maryland (USM) policies, and applicable federal and state regulations. Our team provides consultation and guidance on classification, compensation, organizational design, and workforce planning to help attract, develop, and retain a high-performing workforce.

Position classification and job evaluation Compensation analysis and salary administration
- Market pricing and salary benchmarking
- Review of position descriptions and organizational structures
- Guidance on salary offers, reclassifications, and salary adjustments
- Review of acting appointments, non-teaching overloads, and other compensation actions
- Administration of the USM Exempt and Nonexempt Pay Programs
- Compliance with classification and compensation-related policies and regulations, including the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA)
