Life Insurance

MetLife offers two Life Insurance plans options sponsored by the State of Maryland Life Insurance Plan and University System of Maryland (USM) Life Insurance Plan (formerly UNUM). The State of Maryland MetLife plan offers Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D). The USM plan offers Long Term Disability (LTD). Each plan is portable and offers dependent coverage. Use the one-page MetLife Comparison chart to compare each plan or the USM Expanded Comparison Chart. Employees can enroll in both plans.

State of Maryland Life Insurance Plan

This plan also offers Accidental Death and Dismemberment.

Eligible employees can enroll within 60 days of hire or during Open Enrollment in mid-October. Coverage is effective January 1 during open enrollment.

This plan also offers Long Term Disability.

Eligible employees can enroll within 60 days of initial hire (without medical underwriting) or during the Annual enrollment period in March (subject to medical underwriting). Coverage is effective April 1 during annual enrollment.
