Living in College Park

State Employees Credit Union of Maryland (SECU)
SECU offers employees free checking, share savings, direct deposit, convenient payroll deduction, ATM services, new and used auto loans, and other financial services.

Athletic Events
Employees receive discounts on Terp football and basketball season ticket packages. The Maryland athletic program consists of 20 varsity sport teams and has been in the Big Ten Conference since July 1, 2014.

Cultural Programs
Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center at Maryland is popular for its diverse and innovative programs in the Fine Arts, including music, dance and theater. Employees can purchase tickets to concerts and can also attend some free concerts.

Library Privileges

Campus Book Store
Employees receive discount on items purchased from University Book Center in the Stamp Union.

Recreation Programs
The University of Maryland provides an unparalleled opportunity for recreational sports and leisure activity. Employees and their families are eligible to access the vast array of recreational facilities and activities including the gyms, pools, courts, and clubs and to take classes in areas like aquatics, fitness, tennis and intramural sports. Some require RecWell membership fees at an employee discounted rate.

Live and Work: College Park Program
The College Park City-University Partnership Live+Work Program is part of an effort to increase the number of people living near their place of employment. Through this program you can receive $20,000 in down payment or closing cost assistance for a home purchased anywhere in College Park, structured as a 7-year, zero-interest, forgivable loan.

Hearing and Speech Clinic
The Hearing and Speech Clinic at the University of Maryland provides speech, language, and hearing services for individuals of all ages with a wide variety of disorders and conditions. Located in LeFrak Hall in College Park, the Clinic is operated by the Department of Hearing and Speech Sciences as both a training and research facility of speech-language pathology and audiology.

Travel Discounts
UMD has travel contracts available for campus business travel use and selected personal use.  Current Employees must sign in to view discounts.

Free Ridership on Maryland Transit Administration’s (MTA) systems
Free ridership is available for all regular USM faculty and staff members on Maryland Transit Administration’s (MTA) systems.  Regular status UMD faculty and staff can use the Baltimore Light Rail, the Baltimore Metro Subway, MTA bus service, and commuter bus service lines 120, 150, and 160 in the Baltimore region at no charge. The free Mass Transit Benefit does not include the MARC trains, Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority, special event buses, or commuter buses other than lines 120, 150, and 160 in the Baltimore region.  

All regular-status faculty and staff who wish to use the free ridership benefit must get a state ID by completing the State ID application and  State Security Card Acknowledgement forms.

Please email all forms and copy of your government-issued photo ID to Kim Williams  kwillia4@umd.edu in Payroll Services.  After at least 48 hours of confirmation that your form has been processed, the employee may go to the location indicated on their application to obtain their ID on the following days:  Monday, Wednesday, and Friday between 8 am – 2 pm. The employee must bring the State Security Card Acknowledgement form with them when they obtain their ID.
