Goals and Development Items
Goals and Development Items are Workday performance management functions that complement the PRD process, but are not actually entered into the PRD evaluation forms. For this reason, they can also be entered/adjusted outside of PRD timelines. Examples could include professional development items such as classes or certifications.
Goals
A goal is an objective with a designated deadline set by an employee or their manager.
Managers can:
- Create goals for individual employees
- Cascade goals to their entire team
- Add employees to an existing goal
- Create organizational goals
Employees can:
- Create, edit, or archive goals
- Submit goals to their manager for review and approval
Example Goal
Learn the new Job Aid. Demonstrate the task and answer questions during our team meeting on November 30, 2027.
Development Items
A Development Item is an informal target used to track an employee’s incremental development (usually without deadlines).
Employees can enter/delete these items without manager approval anytime.
Example Development Item
Improve presentation skills: work on natural speaking rate, strategic pauses, and effective use of emphasis.
