HR Communities

HR Communities play a vital role in the success of HR related initiatives. They support faculty and staff by educating, sharing resources, collaborating, and leading efforts to improve the quality and consistency of HR services.

Fair Labor Standards Act

"On April 26, 2024, the U.S. Department of Labor (Department) published a final rule, Defining and Delimiting the Exemptions for Executive, Administrative, Professional, Outside Sales, and Computer Employees, to update and revise the regulations issued under section 13(a)(1) of the Fair Labor Standards Act implementing the exemption from minimum wage and overtime pay requirements for executive, administrative, and professional employees.

Salary Structures

The formal salary structures, for both Exempt and Nonexempt positions, are developed under the umbrella of the University System of Maryland (USM). Each salary scale is reviewed biannually, on alternating years. Recommendations to adjust the scales are made in accordance with market movement. Each USM institution is involved in the development of the recommendations. The Classification and Compensation Team adheres to using a market-based pay system.
