Organ Donation Leave
Organ Donation Leave is a special type of paid leave available to University System of Maryland (USM) employees.
It covers:
- Preparation for the donation procedure
- The donation procedure itself
- Recovery following the procedure
Leave Available
| Type of Donation | Leave Allowed (per 12-month period) |
|---|---|
| Bone Marrow Donation | Up to 7 days paid leave |
| Organ Donation | Up to 30 days paid leave |
Note: Organ Donation Leave will not reduce your sick or annual leave balance. Leave can be used in any increment (full or partial days).
How to Request Organ Donation Leave
Complete the Organ Donation Leave Request Form
- Submit your request:
- Submit Online
- or Email to umdleave@umd.edu
- Include medical documentation with your request:
- Must confirm you are the donor
- Specify the type of donation (organ or bone marrow)
- State anticipated duration of leave
If documentation is not available at the time of request, you have 15 days to provide it.
